Micro Manufacturing

The project was to create a human robot interaction incorporating AR or VR. The solution should provide a seamless and novel connection between robots and humans. My solution consisted of a human technician and robotic print farm relationship, interacting through the medium of an AR headset. The headset provides real time data on how the print farm is performing, and any issues that need to be attended to. I took this project as an opportunity to explore how a 3d print farm could be designed to be as efficient as possible to reduce the cost of local, small scale rapid manufacturing.

Initial Concept Ideas

An array of design concepts were presented to the client for feedback and approval. There are 3 different initial design concepts, all of which have their pros and cons. The posters below outline the features of each design and how they could be implemented. There is also a poster showcasing how an AR headset would be utilized by a technician in order to more seamlessly interact with the print farm.

Final Design

Concept C was chosen, and was refined to reflect the changes outlined by the client and mentor. The posters were updated to include new information on how a client would order from the print farm and how the robot would interact with the 3D printers.
